How To – Rig a Spinnerbait Trailer Hook
Rate this How To:
Spinnerbaits are effective from ice out till the dead of fall and can elicit strikes in 6inches or 60ft of water. Short strikes on these bladed baits can be frustrating. Here are a few rigging methods to help you land those finicky fish.
Necessary Equipment:
Spinnerbait of Choice
Trailer Hook with Tubing
Rigging Method #1: Traditional Eye Rigging.
Step 1: Cut a small piece of surgical tubing, just large enough to cover the eye of the hook.
Step 2: Slide the surgical tubing over the eye of the trailer hook.
Step 3: Take the hook point of the spinnerbait and drive it through the surgical tubing and eye of the trailer hook. Make sure the trailer hook sits upright just like the spinnerbait hook.
This rigging method is quick and easy allowing the trailer hook to freely move from side to side.
Rigging Method #2: Stationary Surgical Tube Rigging
Step 1: Cut a piece of surgical tubing approximately 1inch in length.
Step 2: Slide the surgical tubing over the eye of the trailer hook, just far enough to cover the eye.
Step 3: With the trailer hook point facing up, take the spinnerbait and drive the hook point down through the end of the surgical tubing farthest away from the trailer hook eye.
Step 4: Come back with the trailer hook and push the spinnerbait hook through the eye of the trailer hook.
This rigging method keeps the trailer hook positioned directly behind the spinnerbait hook making your bait run true, preventing hang-ups, and increasing hook up percentage.

The second rigging method is great. I was impressed by how straight the hook stays behind the bait. Leave it to Izynski.
